Williams’ first spaceflight was aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-116) in December 2006, which took her to the International Space Station (ISS). She spent 195 days in space, setting a record for the longest spaceflight by a female astronaut at the time. During this mission, she conducted four spacewalks, totaling over 29 hours outside the ISS.

Her second spaceflight, Expedition 32/33 in 2012, further solidified her legacy. She became the second woman to command the ISS and added three more spacewalks to her record, bringing her total to seven spacewalks and over 50 hours outside the spacecraft.
